Robo-Mate, a project funded by the EU, aimed to develop a mobile human-robot exoskeleton to manipulate heavy goods. This project focused on leveraging open innovation to connect start-ups with established companies to secure resources for developing a first prototype.
My role involved the conception as well as the ideation of possible solutions.

The main challenge was to find the most appropriate strategy to secure resources for developing the first prototype of the Robo-Mate exoskeleton, addressing the lack of resource access and collaboration opportunities for start-ups.
The research focused on exploring open innovation strategies, specifically the outside-in approach, and conducting an in-depth case study on Robo-Mate. Interviews with key stakeholders and analysis of project documentation provided insights for developing a collaborative innovation strategy.
The project identified a collaborative innovation strategy as the best approach, leading to the development of a prototype and establishing valuable partnerships. The automotive industry showed significant interest in the exoskeleton for improving workplace safety and efficiency.
The project demonstrated the importance of collaboration and open innovation in securing resources for start-ups. Future efforts should focus on continuous adaptation, leveraging industry partnerships, and addressing market needs to enhance the product's development and commercialization.
