Finding Product-Market-Fit for Orphy

Orphy, a flexible SaaS CRM solution, needed to find a specific customer problem it could solve to address the lack of cash flow and meet investor expectations.

12/2018 Rebranding Product-Market Fit

Introduction

The main challenge was that development focused on building a flexible solution to serve all kinds of customers, integrating the latest features, but without targeting a clear customer type.

Role

My role involved identifying and addressing market needs.

Team

Investors, the founder, the marketing and development team.

Problem Statement

The main issue was that the company name, Orphis, was not distinguishable from the product name, Orphy, leading to confusion among prospects and customers.

Approach/Implementation

Internally analyzed the unique selling proposition (USP) against competitors like HubSpot and Salesforce. Engaged with various industries to identify special needs that Orphy could address uniquely. Therefore I employed a Blue Ocean Strategy to separate the CRM Orphy as a product for a specific industry. We built simple prototypes and presented them to potential customers to demonstrate Orphy's potential without significant investment.

Key Features

  • Creation of clear and easy-to-understand branding.
  • Development of a website, business cards, and a corporate manual for future needs.

Results

We learned about existing solutions in the market and the importance of team involvement. Recognized the necessity of early-stage research in product development. Understood the importance of team understanding and commitment to the process. Realized the potential for Orphy to be instrumental in future software projects.

Reflection

The project highlighted the importance of team and founder alignment with the new brand to maintain motivation and consistency. This ensures that the brand identity remains strong and effective in the long term.
